Ecologists in Action sought dismissal of Adrian Angel Viudes

Ecologists in Action sought dismissal of Adrian Angel Viudes President of the Port Authority of Cartagena in a letter to the Ministries of Development and Environment, with a series of arguments that, as this organization reaffirm its incompetence to hold that office.

The President of the Port Authority of Cartagena and was with the expansion of the Valley of Escombreras its effort to carry forward projects that produce severe environmental damage. In 1996, Adrian Angel Viudes raises the union of the island of tailings with the tip boom and the construction of a dam parallel. The dam was planned to build a large pier for what it took five million cubic meters of fill. To reduce the costs of such an enormous amount of padding, Viudes raised using contaminated mining waste accumulated in the bay of Portman, ligand and something not feasible: the expansion of the tailings with Dock Regeneration Portman Bay. The Port Authority of Cartagena requested at the time, financing European Investment Bank (EIB). This rejected that funding for their environmental impact and no social interest as the sole beneficiary was the majority owner: Portman Golf. This attempt to unite two incompatible projects Portman left the village without the opportunity to see reclaimed its Bay.

Her current project, the Container Terminal in Gorguel, greater environmental impact than the expansion of the dock Escombreras again is totally incompatible with of Regeneration Bay Portman, so most likely the European Investment Bank denied any funding, as it did in 1997 with a project deemed environmentally and socially viable.

Moreover, Adrian Angel Viudes, despite holding public office, shows a surprising ignorance in environmental matters and legislation governing it, considering the state and community law a mere "pipeline." This law exists to guarantee the conservation of a common, namely the environment. The President of Port Authority of Cartagena should not forget that the area where you intend to install the Container Terminal is a protected area at European level. The Gorguel have parts that are part of Natura 2000, and the Sierra of the Fausilla that is declared as SCI and SPA. And you still have to explain how to solve the "injuries" are far from environmental to be minimal, as he wants to believe, with its lack of transparency of information to the public.

The lack of respect shown towards anyone group that do not conform to the proposed installation of a container terminal in the Gorguel, is proven in press statements as those made after the March by the Coast last June where "... was surprised by the media coverage of this protest and joked with the possibility that some people had come for boating and hiking and paella on a Sunday morning ... . "

also blamed environmental groups for its failure in Enlargement of the Basin Escombreras: "... recalled that it had taken steps to inform all you want about the project and counter criticism from environmentalists. "Few, but cackle a lot and we have realized that they can convince the public ...."

For all the foregoing, Ecologists Action requested his dismissal as president of Port Authority of Cartagena, for his demonstrated incompetence to hold that office.
