Avilés María Isaura is a woman who lives in San Julian, Sonsonate. She and a group of men and women, are working on the farm. One objective is to rescue the local varieties.
"We work in a group for the distribution of native seeds in the communities. We are also working on the organic, the organic need to rescue our crops," says Maria.
A total of 14 communities in San Julian are working to rescue the local varieties. And in 6 communities have started to work as organic crops.
"We have three years of being organized, so far we have rescued some of the seeds of rice, beans and corn."
"There is involvement of men and women, but we are more women there are few men who get involved, "says María Avilés.
adds:" In organizing, we are more women, perhaps because we are more concerned on what is food sovereignty ".
Currently, local varieties and our food sovereignty is affected mainly by free trade agreements that promote GM products exclusively (FIN/2009).
